Our Elementary program offers classes for student in Grades K-6. We appreciate the value of our children building friendships with other children of all ages, which is why our program is designed to offer instruction time for children in both age-specific settings and multi-age settings.
Age-specific settings allow children to work on academic skills that follow their develoment and awareness of the world. Children can learn these skills parallel to one another, observing how others learn and gleaning skills from them. This kind of learning from one another tends to be a bit more gentle, as there should be smaller gaps in skill. When we learn and grow alongside others, we build lasting relationships.
Multi-age learning environments have many benefits as well! Students that are not typical learners can feel free to be who they are because there is a wider span of learning levels and skills in the same setting. Younger students are able to watch older students and learn from them, and older students have the privilege of learning how to teach and mentor younger ones. These settings mirror our homes with siblings and generations and teach children to have grace toward one another.
Our Morning Block classes are age-specific classrooms (see above graphic). These classes serve as "homeroom" for children, and this is the group of children that students will identify with as their class for things like class pictures, birthdays, holiday celebrations, etc. During Morning Block, students receive instruction in Language Arts and Discipleship.
Our afternoon Living History class will provide instruction to all Elementary Level students together. They will have opportunities to engage with World History in large and small group settings, making history approachable and fun!
Following Living History, there will be 2 more class periods. These will include instruction in Science (Anatomy & Physiology) and an Enrichment Rotation (including a variety of subject material). Students will attend these classes with their homeroom groups.
NEW THIS YEAR: While our Elementary afternoon classes will be based on reputable, high-quality texts, families will not be required to purchase any textbooks for afternoon classes. We will provide shopping links for families who wish to continue learning at home, but those purchases will be optional. In addition, none of our afternoon elementary classes will have required homework for any age level.
Please refer to the above graphic to learn about class divisions and Morning Block homework expectations.
